Request for Neotropical harvestmen

Sunday 17.August 2014

My name is Daniel Proud and I am beginning a two year postdoctoral project at the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales (MACN) together with Abel Pérez González, supervisor for the project.

The project aims to investigate systematics and biogeography for Caribbean Samoidae (Opiliones: Laniatores), and their placement within the superfamily Samooidea. We intend to use both morphological and molecular data for the phylogenetic analysis.

We have many specimens from the Caribbean Islands thanks to the Caribbean Island Biogeography project! (http://www.islandbiogeography.org/) However, we are still in need of recently collected materials, particularly from mainland Central and South America bordering the Caribbean (southern Mexico to northern Brazil). This region is of great importance to our study.

In general, we are looking for very small litter-dwelling harvestmen (usually collected in Winkler or Berlese samples) that have been preserved for sequencing (in >95% ethanol). If you have any harvestmen from this region we would love to hear from you - you can contact me by email. It would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Best wishes,

Dan
